Sometimes visiting a city doesn’t just have to be about sightseeing its historic centre, visiting the main museums or trying the best restaurants. Sometimes a bit of adventure is all we need. And it is, for that reason, that today I want to talk to you about a cool experience in Porto: a buggy ride.

Cool experience Porto Buggy Ride

A buggy ride in Porto is everything I needed and didn’t know. I offered this experience as a birthday gift to two different people in the last four years. And the final verdict was: we ALL LOVED IT 😄! And I already want to repeat the experience.

What is a buggy?

Before starting to tell you all about my experience, I think I should explain first what is actually a buggy. A buggy is a motorized vehicle and usually open on the sides.

What company do I recommend for this cool experience in Porto?

I chose Oporto Buggy Adventure for my cool buggy ride experience in Porto. In addition to other activities (e.g. paintball, quad bike rides), this company specializes in buggy rides.

There are several buggy tour options, ranging from half-hour trips to 3-hour trips. The options currently available are these:

  • Dirt and Dust: 30 min; from 40€
  • Extreme Tour: 60 min; from 70€
  • Cross Country: 120 min; from 110€
  • Adventure Tours: 180 min; from 140€

In my case, I always chose the Cross Country option, with a duration of 2 hours. This seems to be a good option, as it’s neither too short nor too long. Believe me, although 2 hours seems too long, time flies by!

There are buggies for 2 people (these were the ones I tried) and also for 4 people. However, the prices for these two different options differ.

How was this buggy ride experience in Porto?

The departure point of these buggy tours is in Baltar, which is about 30 minutes by car from Porto city centre.

After arriving at the Oporto Buggy Adventure facilities in Baltar, we had a short explanation of how the buggy works, being necessary to sign a term of responsibility.

We also picked up our goggles and helmets before starting our journey. At all times during the tour, we are the ones driving the buggy. However, there is at least one guide who accompanies us during the whole trip. In fact, it is the guide who will show us the way.

Driving the buggy is quite simple! You just need to accelerate, brake and turn the blinkers. The guides provide all the necessary information and help whenever someone is facing some difficulties.

Despite driving on some paved roads, we will mostly drive on dirt roads. And this is clearly where the fun part comes in 😅. Get ready for a lot (and I mean, A LOT!) of dust. As the buggy is open, it is normal to get a lot of dirt and dust.

Also, along the way, we stop in some beautiful places in the mountains, where we can contemplate some beautiful landscapes. And these moments are also an excellent opportunity to change drivers!

Throughout the whole trip, you’ll probably feel excited and adventurous, thus making this buggy ride one of the cool experiences in Porto! Perfect for those looking for something different to experience in Porto.

Some useful tips for this buggy ride in Porto

  • Wear your older clothes and shoes on this tour. You will arrive at the end of the route completely dirty.
  • Take a jumper, because when driving faster, it’ll get windier, which can be unpleasant.
  • The buggy drivers must have a valid driving license.
  • Although you can feel some adrenaline during the route, I never felt unsafe.
