Looking for the best places for a drink with a view in Porto? You’ve come to the right place.

As a Porto local, I can tell you that one of the best things about the city is how many incredible spots there are to enjoy a drink while taking in views of the Douro River, the historic center, or even the Atlantic Ocean.

Porto is an amazing city. I might be a little biased since it’s my hometown, but if you visit it once, I’m pretty sure you’ll understand why. It’s the colorful streets, the historic buildings, the welcoming atmosphere, and, of course, the stunning viewpoints scattered throughout the city.

The good news is that many of these views can be enjoyed from a rooftop bar, a riverside terrace, a hidden garden, or a cozy café.

Whether you’re looking for the perfect sunset spot, a place for cocktails with a view, or simply somewhere to relax after a day of sightseeing, Porto has plenty of options.

In this guide, I’m sharing my favorite places for a drink with a view in Porto, including rooftop bars, terraces, cafés, and a few hidden gems.

Some of these are places I’ve been visiting for years and keep coming back to, while others are more recent finds. But one thing they all have in common? I’d happily recommend them to anyone visiting Porto.

Best places for a drink with a view in Porto

Before jumping into the recommendations, I’ve included a map below to help you visualize where each place is located. While many of these spots are concentrated around Porto’s historic center and the Douro River, others are closer to the Atlantic coast or in quieter parts of the city.

To make things easier to navigate, I’ve organized this guide into three categories:

  • best rooftop bars in Porto
  • bars and terraces with the best views
  • other great outdoor terraces that are worth visiting, even if the view isn’t the main attraction.

This way, whether you’re looking for a rooftop bar in Porto for sunset drinks, a terrace overlooking the Douro River, or simply a pleasant outdoor spot to relax, you’ll be able to quickly find the places that best match what you’re looking for.

» Best rooftop bars in Porto

1. Espaço Porto Cruz

If you’re looking for one of the best rooftop bars in Porto, Espaço Porto Cruz is hard to beat. Located on the Gaia waterfront, this rooftop offers spectacular views of the Douro River, the colorful Ribeira district, and the iconic Luís I Bridge. It is easily one of the best places in Porto for sunset drinks.

Espaço Porto Cruz

The view alone is worth the visit, but the cocktail menu is also a highlight. Many of the drinks are made with Port wine, making this a great place to try something uniquely local while enjoying one of the city’s most famous panoramas.

I’ve been here several times over the years, and it remains one of the places I most often recommend to visitors. Just keep in mind that it has become extremely popular, so queues are common, especially at sunset and on weekends.

BEST FOR: Sunset drinks with views of the Douro River and Luís I Bridge
📍 LOCATION: Largo Miguel Bombarda 23, 4400-222 Vila Nova de Gaia

2. 17.º Restaurante & Bar

Located on the 17th floor of Hotel Dom Henrique Downtown, this is another excellent rooftop bar in Porto for anyone wanting to admire the city from above. The highlight here is the panoramic perspective over Porto’s rooftops, churches, and skyline.

While there is a restaurant on the same floor, my favorite part is the outdoor terrace. It is the perfect spot to enjoy a cocktail while watching the city lights come on at the end of the day. Because it is located slightly away from the riverfront, it also tends to feel less crowded than some of the more famous Porto rooftop bars.

BEST FOR: Cocktails with panoramic views over Porto’s skyline
📍 LOCATION: Rua do Bolhão 223, 4000-112 Porto

3. Guindalense

If I had to choose one place on this list with the best value-for-money view, Guindalense would be a strong contender. Located on the historic Escadas dos Guindais, this simple and traditional bar offers one of the most iconic views in Porto, overlooking the Luís I Bridge, the Douro River, and the Gaia waterfront.

Don’t expect fancy cocktails or a sophisticated rooftop setting. The charm of Guindalense lies precisely in its simplicity. Grab a drink, find a spot on the terrace, and enjoy one of the best sunset views in the city. It’s a place I find myself returning to time and time again.

BEST FOR: Affordable drinks with stunning views of the Luís I Bridge
📍 LOCATION: Escada dos Guindais 43, 4000-337 Porto

4. Rooftop das Flores

Hidden among the streets of Porto’s historic center, Rooftop das Flores may be one of the smallest Porto rooftop bars, but it more than makes up for it with its unique perspective over the city’s rooftops and historic buildings.

The atmosphere feels much more intimate than some of Porto’s larger rooftop bars, making it a great option if you’re looking for somewhere quieter. Besides cocktails and other drinks, you can also stop by for lunch or a light meal while enjoying the view.

If you’re planning where to eat after your drinks, check out my guide to the best restaurants in Porto, where I share my favorite places for traditional Portuguese food and more modern dining experiences.

BEST FOR: A quieter rooftop experience in Porto’s historic center
📍 LOCATION: Rua da Vitória 177, 4050-634 Porto

5. Hotel Neya Porto

Located at the top of the Neya Porto Hotel, this rooftop bar combines beautiful views over the Douro River with a more relaxed atmosphere than some of the city’s better-known rooftops.

It is one of the newer additions to Porto’s rooftop scene and has quickly become a popular spot for drinks at sunset.

The cocktail menu is extensive, but there are also food options if you’re looking for a light meal. Thanks to its location in the Miragaia area, the views feel slightly different from many other rooftop bars in Porto, offering a beautiful perspective over the river and the city.

BEST FOR: Sunset cocktails overlooking the Douro River
📍 LOCATION: Rua de Monchique 35 a 41, 4050-394 Porto

6. Vincci Ponte de Ferro

Few places in Porto can compete with the views from Vincci Ponte de Ferro. Located right next to the upper deck of the Luís I Bridge, this hotel offers one of the most spectacular perspectives over Porto’s historic center, the Douro River, and the iconic Ribeira waterfront.

One of the best things about this spot is that you don’t need to be a hotel guest to enjoy it. Head up to one of the hotel’s terraces, order a cocktail, and take in what is arguably one of the most postcard-worthy views in the city. If you’re visiting around sunset, even better.

And here’s another reason why I like this place: even if the weather isn’t cooperating, you can still enjoy the views from the hotel’s indoor bar, thanks to its large windows overlooking the bridge and Porto’s skyline. This makes it a great option year-round, not just on sunny days.

BEST FOR: Cocktails with front-row views of the Luís I Bridge and Ribeira
📍 LOCATION: Rua do Casino da Ponte 1, 4430-999 Vila Nova de Gaia

7. Panoramic Bar Hotel Boa-Vista

If you prefer ocean views over city views, the Panoramic Bar at Hotel Boa-Vista is a great alternative to the more central Porto rooftop bars. Located in Foz do Douro, this rooftop offers beautiful views over the Atlantic Ocean and the charming old houses that characterize this part of the city.

The atmosphere here tends to be quieter and more relaxed, making it a lovely place for a coffee, a drink, or simply a break while exploring Porto’s coastal area.

BEST FOR: Ocean views and a relaxed atmosphere in Foz do Douro
📍 LOCATION: Esplanada do Castelo 58, Foz do Douro

8. HF Ipanema Park

Located on the top floor of the HF Ipanema Park, On Top is one of the largest rooftop bars in Porto. From here, you’ll enjoy panoramic views stretching across the city, with the Douro River and even the Atlantic Ocean visible in the distance on clear days.

Rooftop terraces Porto HF Ipanema Park

What makes this rooftop stand out is the combination of the views, the stylish setting, and the rooftop pool, which can also be accessed by non-guests from 8 PM. If you decide to stop by, I definitely recommend trying some of the signature cocktails, especially the On Terrace and the Porto Passion.

One detail worth mentioning is that part of the space is enclosed with glass panels. While this doesn’t make much difference on sunny days, it can be a nice bonus if you’re visiting on a windier or cooler day.

BEST FOR: Cocktails, panoramic city views, and rooftop pool vibes
📍 LOCATION: Rua de Serralves 124, 4150-702 Porto

9. Yeatman

If you’re looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion, The Yeatman is hard to beat. Located within one of the most luxurious hotels in Porto, this bar offers breathtaking views over the Douro River, the colorful Ribeira district, and Porto’s historic skyline.

The setting is elegant, the service is impeccable, and the wine list is exactly what you would expect from a hotel so closely connected to Portugal’s wine heritage. Yes, prices are noticeably higher than at most places on this list, but the experience is equally memorable.

Personally, I think this is one of those places that is worth splurging on at least once, whether for a sunset drink, a special celebration, or simply to enjoy one of the most iconic views in Porto.

BEST FOR: A special occasion with some of the most spectacular views in Porto
📍 LOCATION: Rua do Choupelo, 4400-088 Vila Nova de Gaia

10. Bite Rooftop

One of the newest additions to Porto’s rooftop scene, Bite Rooftop enjoys a privileged location in Vila Nova de Gaia with beautiful views over the Douro River, the Luís I Bridge, and Porto’s historic center. Compared to some of the more polished hotel rooftops, the atmosphere here feels much more informal and relaxed.

Bite Rooftop

Besides cocktails, Port wine, and other drinks, the menu also includes focaccias and several small plates that are perfect for sharing. If you’re looking for a rooftop with great views but a more casual vibe, this is definitely one to consider.

🎥 Want a better look at the views and atmosphere? Check out my reel here.
BEST FOR: Casual drinks and sharing plates with views of the Luís I Bridge
📍 LOCATION: Rua de Cabo Simão 10, 4430-033 Vila Nova de Gaia

11. Amura – Bar & Rooftop Lounge

Located in the Miragaia neighborhood, Amura Rooftop is one of Porto’s newer rooftop bars and still feels like a bit of a hidden gem. The rooftop offers beautiful views over the Douro River, while the atmosphere is noticeably calmer and more intimate than some of the city’s more famous rooftops.

The space combines signature cocktails, light food options, and a stylish setting that works particularly well around sunset. If you’re looking for a rooftop that feels slightly less touristy while still offering excellent views, Amura is worth keeping on your radar.

BEST FOR: Sunset drinks overlooking the Douro River in a quieter setting
📍 LOCATION: Rua de São Pedro de Miragaia 60, 4050-565 Porto

12. Terraço do Jardim

Located on the fifth floor of Vincci Bonjardim Hotel, Terraço do Jardim combines panoramic city views with a setting that feels greener and more elegant than many other Porto rooftop bars.

The rooftop is surrounded by plants and carefully designed outdoor spaces, creating a very pleasant atmosphere for drinks at the end of the day.

Besides cocktails, there are also food options available, making it a good choice if you’re looking for more than just a quick drink. The combination of the views, greenery, and relaxed ambiance makes this one of the most charming rooftops in Porto.

BEST FOR: Cocktails, city views, and a more elegant rooftop atmosphere
📍 LOCATION: Rua do Bonjardim 567, 4000-126 Porto

13. Bello Rooftop

Located on the fourth floor of The Rebello Hotel, right on the Gaia waterfront, Bello Rooftop has a privileged location along the Douro River and offers beautiful views of Porto’s historic skyline, with the Luís I Bridge taking center stage.

From the terrace, you can admire the river, the riverside buildings, and some of Porto’s most iconic landmarks, including the Palácio de Cristal Gardens area.

The rooftop is open to both hotel guests and non-guests and offers a varied menu of cocktails, including signature creations and non-alcoholic options. There are also several food options available, from lighter snacks to more substantial dishes, making it a great place to spend a relaxed afternoon or evening by the river.

BEST FOR: Cocktails and riverside views of Porto’s skyline and the Luís I Bridge
📍 LOCATION: Rua da Praia 9950, 4400-554 Vila Nova de Gaia

14. Baxatola Rooftop Bar (Eurostars Porto Douro)

Located on top of Eurostars Porto Douro, Baxatola Rooftop Bar enjoys a privileged position overlooking the Douro River and the iconic Luís I Bridge.

Compared to some of Porto’s busier rooftops, the atmosphere here tends to be a little calmer, making it a pleasant spot for an afternoon drink or a cocktail at sunset. The menu includes cocktails, wine, and light snacks, making it easy to settle in and enjoy the scenery for a while.

15. The Social Hub

Located on top of The Social Hub Porto, this rooftop offers a different perspective from many of the city’s riverfront bars. Instead of Douro views, you’ll find panoramic views over Porto’s rooftops and surrounding neighborhoods, along with a modern and lively atmosphere.

The space combines a rooftop bar, a pool area, and plenty of seating, making it a popular choice among both visitors and locals looking for a more contemporary setting. It’s particularly pleasant at the end of the day, when the city lights begin to come on.

BEST FOR: Panoramic city views, sunset drinks, and rooftop pool vibes
📍 LOCATION: Rua do Choupelo, 4400-088 Vila Nova de Gaia

16. Rooftop Santa Catarina

Located in Afurada, one of the most traditional fishing neighborhoods near Porto, Rooftop Santa Catarina offers a different view from most rooftop bars in the city. From here, you can enjoy beautiful views over the Douro River, the marina, and the surrounding waterfront. And it’s also a great place to watch the sunset.

Rooftop Santa Catarina

The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, making it a great place to enjoy a drink away from the busiest tourist areas.

BEST FOR: Relaxed drinks overlooking the Douro River in Afurada
📍 LOCATION: Rua da Praia 9950, Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal 4400-554

17. Douro Sky Lounge

Located on top of Vincci Porto Hotel, near the Alfândega do Porto, Douro Sky Lounge offers pleasant views over the Douro River and the surrounding riverside area.

While I wouldn’t necessarily rank it among Porto’s most spectacular rooftops, it is still a nice option if you’re looking for a quieter place to enjoy a drink away from some of the city’s busier rooftop bars. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the riverside location makes it particularly enjoyable on warmer days.

The atmosphere is laid-back, and the river views make it a nice choice for an afternoon drink, especially if you’re already exploring the area.

BEST FOR: Relaxed drinks overlooking the Douro River
📍 LOCATION: Alameda de Basílio Teles 29/33, 4050-127 Porto

18. Praia da Luz

If you’re looking for a place to enjoy a drink by the ocean, Praia da Luz is one of the best options in Porto. Located right above the beach of the same name in Foz do Douro, this beachfront restaurant and bar offers beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean, making it a particularly popular spot at sunset.

What I like most about Praia da Luz is the combination of the sea views and the relaxed atmosphere. Whether you’re stopping by for a cocktail, a glass of wine, or a meal, it’s the kind of place where it’s easy to lose track of time while watching the waves and the changing colors of the sky.

BEST FOR: Sunset drinks with ocean views in Foz do Douro
📍 LOCATION: Rua Cel. Raúl Peres, 4150-155 Porto

19. BASE

Located right next to the iconic Clérigos Tower, BASE is one of the most popular outdoor terraces in Porto. While it doesn’t offer panoramic river views like some of the city’s rooftop bars, its unique garden setting and views of the tower make it one of the most enjoyable places to have a drink in the city center.

Base Porto 1

I’ve visited BASE countless times over the years and it remains one of my favorite spots for a relaxed afternoon or a summer evening with friends. The atmosphere is casual, the location couldn’t be more central, and it’s a great place to take a break between sightseeing stops in Porto.

BEST FOR: Drinks with views of Clérigos Tower in a relaxed garden setting
📍 LOCATION: Passeio dos Clérigos, Rua das Carmelitas 151, 4050-163 Porto

20. IBAR

Located right by the ocean in Foz do Douro, IBAR is one of those places where the setting matters more than the drinks themselves. With a large outdoor terrace overlooking the Atlantic, it is a great spot to soak up the sun, enjoy the sea breeze, and watch the waves roll in.

Personally, I think the location is the main reason to visit. If you decide to stop by, I’d recommend keeping things simple and ordering a drink while enjoying the view. It is the kind of place that works best on a sunny afternoon by the ocean.

BEST FOR: Oceanfront drinks and sunny afternoons by the beach
📍 LOCATION: Avenida de Montevideu 516, 4150-519 Porto

21. Miradouro Ignez

Located near Palácio de Cristal, Miradouro Ignez is one of my favorite places for a drink with a view in Porto. From the terrace, you’ll enjoy beautiful panoramic views over the Douro River and Gaia waterfront.

The view is undoubtedly the star of the show here, especially at sunset when the city starts to light up. While the menu includes food options, I personally think this is one of those places where it’s best to order a drink, find a table overlooking the river, and simply enjoy the scenery.

BEST FOR: Sunset drinks with panoramic views of the Douro River
📍 LOCATION: Rua da Restauração 252, 4050-592 Porto

22. Bar Ponte Pênsil

Few places in Porto can claim a location quite as unique as Bar Ponte Pênsil. Set inside one of the remaining pillars of the historic Pênsil Bridge, this bar enjoys a privileged position right on the Douro waterfront, with beautiful views over Vila Nova de Gaia, the river, and the surrounding Ribeira area.

The location is undoubtedly the main attraction here. Because of its prime setting, prices tend to be a little higher than average, but I think the views more than make up for it. If you’re looking for a memorable place to enjoy a drink by the river, this is one of the most distinctive spots in Porto.

BEST FOR: Drinks by the Douro River in one of Porto’s most unique locations
📍 LOCATION: Rua de Cima do Muro 14, 4000-173 Porto

23. Marina do Freixo

Tucked away on the eastern side of Porto, Marina do Freixo is one of the city’s lesser-known terraces. Unlike many of the more popular spots along the Douro, this area feels quieter and more local, making it a pleasant escape from the crowds.

The terrace overlooks the marina and the Douro River, creating a peaceful setting for a coffee or a relaxed drink. Although the menu includes meals and snacks, I personally think this is one of those places best enjoyed for the views and the tranquil atmosphere rather than the food itself.

BEST FOR: A quiet coffee or drink overlooking the marina and the Douro River
📍 LOCATION: Marina do Freixo Porto, N108, 4300-316 Porto

24. Esplanada do Teleférico

If I had to choose one terrace with a view that never fails to impress visitors, Esplanada do Teleférico would be near the top of the list. Located next to the Gaia Cable Car and just a short walk from Jardim do Morro, it offers stunning views over the Douro River, the Luís I Bridge, and Porto’s historic center.

SEE ALSO  The best restaurants in Porto by a local: my favorite spots for every mood

The location is one of the best in the city for watching the sunset, which explains why it tends to get very busy, especially during the warmer months. While the food and drinks are not necessarily the reason I come here, the views alone make it worth a stop.

BEST FOR: Sunset drinks with iconic views of Porto and the Luís I Bridge
📍 LOCATION: Rua Rocha Leão S/N, 4430-210 Vila Nova de Gaia

25. Lapa Lapa

Located along the seafront promenade in Foz do Douro, Lapa Lapa combines a relaxed atmosphere with beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean. Whether you’re stopping by for lunch, dinner, or simply a drink, the outdoor terrace is the real highlight.

What I like most about this spot is its location. Sitting by the ocean with a drink in hand while watching people stroll along the waterfront is one of the simplest pleasures in Porto. It’s a particularly nice option on sunny days or around sunset.

BEST FOR: Drinks by the ocean in Foz do Douro
📍 LOCATION: Avenida do Brasil, 4150-185 Porto

26. BOSCO

Hidden away next to the Virtudes Gardens, Bosco is one of Porto’s best-kept secrets. Part restaurant, part garden bar, this unique space combines lush greenery, creative cocktails, live music, and beautiful views over the Douro River.

The outdoor garden, surrounded by trees and overlooking the river, creates a relaxed atmosphere that’s perfect for a late-afternoon drink or sunset cocktails with friends. It’s easy to forget you’re right in the city center.

The drinks menu includes classic and signature cocktails, while the restaurant offers a more elevated dining experience for those who want to stay for dinner.

BEST FOR: Sunset drinks in a hidden garden overlooking the Douro River
📍 LOCATION: R. de Azevedo de Albuquerque 1, 4050-091 Porto

» Other great outdoor terraces in Porto

27. Terraplana

If views are not your priority and you’re simply looking for a great place to enjoy a great cocktail outdoors, Terraplana is one of my favorite bars in Porto. Located just outside the busiest tourist areas, this cozy spot has both indoor seating and a pleasant outdoor terrace.

What keeps me coming back, though, is the cocktail menu. Whether you’re in the mood for a signature creation or a classic cocktail, this is one of the places I trust most in Porto. And if you get hungry, don’t skip the pizzas… I’ve tried them several times and they’re genuinely delicious.

BEST FOR: Excellent cocktails and one of Porto’s most enjoyable indoor terraces
📍 LOCATION: Avenida de Rodrigues de Freitas 287, 4000-421 Porto

28. Aduela Taberna-Bar

Few places capture Porto’s laid-back atmosphere quite like Aduela. Located in the heart of Porto’s Downtown, this small bar is a favorite among both locals and visitors thanks to its relaxed vibe, outdoor tables, and excellent central location.

The terrace itself is fairly simple, but that’s not really why people come here. Aduela is all about the atmosphere.

On busy evenings, it’s common to see people standing in the street, drink in hand, chatting with friends and soaking up the lively energy of the neighborhood. If you want to experience Porto’s social side, this is a great place to do it.

BEST FOR: A lively local atmosphere in the heart of Porto
📍 LOCATION: Rua das Oliveiras 36, 4050-448 Porto

29. Candelabro

Part bookstore, part café, and part bar, Candelabro is one of the most charming places in Porto to unwind with a drink at the end of the day. Located in the city center, it has a cozy atmosphere that feels very different from the larger rooftop bars and terraces featured earlier in this guide.

What I like most about Candelabro is its character. The outdoor seating area is relatively small, but it’s a great spot to enjoy a glass of wine, a cocktail, or simply take a break from sightseeing while soaking up the atmosphere of the neighborhood.

If you enjoy discovering cozy cafés and local hangouts, don’t miss my guide to the best cafés in Porto, where I share even more of my favorite spots around the city.

BEST FOR: A cozy drink in one of Porto’s most characterful bars
📍 LOCATION: Rua da Conceição 3, 4050-215 Porto

30. Letraria – Craft Beer Garden

If you’re a craft beer lover, Letraria deserves a place on your Porto itinerary. Hidden behind an unassuming façade, this bar features one of the city’s most pleasant beer gardens, making it feel like a little oasis away from the busy streets.

The star of the show is, of course, the extensive selection of Portuguese and international craft beers. Even if you’re not a beer expert, the staff are usually happy to help you choose something based on your preferences.

BEST FOR: Craft beer and a hidden garden terrace in Porto
📍 LOCATION: Rua da Alegria 101, 4000-042 Porto

31. Chez Maurice

Although technically located in Aguda, just south of Porto, Chez Maurice is worth mentioning for anyone looking for a drink with an ocean view. Sitting right by the beach, this relaxed spot has become a favorite among locals, especially during the warmer months.

The location is the main draw here. Grab a drink, find a table overlooking the ocean, and enjoy the sunset as the waves roll in. If you’re exploring the coast south of Porto, it’s a fantastic place to end the day.

BEST FOR: Sunset drinks right by the ocean
📍 LOCATION: Rua do Mar 251, 4410-332 Arcozelo

Final thoughts

As a local, these are the places I find myself recommending again and again to friends visiting the city. Some are perfect for sunset cocktails, others for a relaxed afternoon coffee, but all of them offer a great excuse to slow down and enjoy Porto’s unique atmosphere.
