29 best rooftop and terrace bars and cafés in Porto to enjoy this Summer (by a local)

Table of contents

Porto is an amazing city 😍. I might be a bit biased since it’s my hometown, but if you visit it once, I am sure you’ll agree. It’s the people, the streets full of charm and history, and the views over the magnificent Douro River.

And there are so many open spaces in the city, such as rooftop and terrace bars and cafés, to enjoy the warmer days, while enjoying a drink or a lighter meal.

Therefore, I decided to put together this list of my favourite rooftop and terraces bars and cafés in Porto. With some exceptions, I have had the opportunity to try most of the places recommended in this list!

Map of the best rooftop/terrace bars and cafés in Porto

To help you choose the rooftops/terraces in Porto you wish to visit on your next visit to the city, I’ll share a map with the location of those that for me are the best ones.

01 | Espaço Porto Cruz

Located right on Cais de Gaia, the Porto Cruz building’s terrace is one of the most iconic in Porto. The space has some of the best views over the city of Porto and Luís I bridge. But the good things about this rooftop in Porto don’t stop there: wait until you see the cocktail menu (many drinks are made out of Port wine).

However, I should warn you that this place has become quite famous, both with locals and tourists, so it is usual to find queues at the door (especially at weekends).

📍 LOCATION: Largo Miguel Bombarda 23, 4400-222 Vila Nova de Gaia

02 | 17.º Restaurante & Bar

Located on the 17th floor of the Hotel Dom Henrique Downtown, here you will find a stylish space and one of the best views of the city of Porto.

Besides the restaurant located inside the hotel, the highlight goes to the small terrace located on the same floor, where we can try some cocktails and admire the beautiful Porto landscape.

📍 LOCATION: Rua do Bolhão 223, 4000-112 Porto

03 | Guindalense Futebol Clube

This may not be one of the most glamorous places on this list, but believe me, it’s well worth it. Located on the Porto side, on Escada dos Guindais, here we find a simple and traditional bar, but with a privileged setting over the Luís I bridge.

📍 LOCATION: Escada dos Guindais 43, 4000-337 Porto

04 | BASE

BASE is one of the best terraces in Porto and has a very central location, next to Clérigos Tower. The space is quite large and has a relaxed atmosphere.

It is often sought after by locals and tourists to enjoy those warmer evenings, or even for a more relaxed weekend afternoon with friends and/or family.

📍 LOCATION: Passeio dos Clérigos, Rua das Carmelitas 151, 4050-163 Porto

05 | Rota do Chá

Hidden in an old building on Miguel Bombarda Street, Rota do Chá has a very peaceful interior garden with decorations that take you to Asia.

If you are a tea lover, this is the ideal place to visit in the city of Porto. Rota do Chá has an extensive menu of teas, both hot and cold.

And even for those who don’t like tea (I must admit I am not the biggest fan of tea), the remaining menu and the space itself are well worth the visit 😉.

📍 LOCATION: Rua de Miguel Bombarda 457, 4050-382 Porto

06 | Esplanada do Teleférico

Located on the Vila Nova de Gaia side, Esplanada do Teleférico is probably one of the terraces in Porto with the best views over the city. However, given its proximity to extremely popular places (such as Jardim do Morro), this terrace in Porto is often very crowded.

Also, it’s worth mentioning that at this terrace, I only really recommend tasting the drinks.

📍 LOCATION: Rua Rocha Leão S/N, 4430-210 Vila Nova de Gaia

07 | Miradouro Ignez

Close to Palácio de Cristal, we find Miradouro Ignez – one of the best rooftop bars in Porto. This is the perfect space for that late afternoon when you want to have some fantastic views over Porto.

The menu has some options for those who want to have a meal. However, my recommendation is to stick to drinks.

📍 LOCATION: Rua da Restauração 252, 4050-592 Porto

08 | Panoramic Bar Hotel Boa-Vista

Next to Foz do Douro and located on the 4th floor of the Boa-Vista Hotel, we find a small and pleasant place to have a coffee with a view over the old houses of Foz do Douro.

📍 LOCATION: Esplanada do Castelo 58, Foz do Douro

09 | Terraplana

For those looking for signature cocktails (or for some traditional ones), I suggest a stop at Terraplana.

This is definitely one of my favourite bars in Porto and it has a very nice indoor and outdoor terrace by the street (at the bar’s entrance)!

Also, if you get hungry, you can always order one of the pizzas on the menu, which are very tasty 🥰.

📍 LOCATION: Avenida de Rodrigues de Freitas 287, 4000-421 Porto

💡 EXTRA TIP: If you’re enjoying reading this blog post, you can also check my other post about the best cafés in Porto or the post with some suggestions of several restaurants in the city for different moods.

10 | Aduela Taberna-Bar

Aduela Taberna-Bar is one of the terrace bars with the most relaxed atmosphere in Baixa do Porto. It is a meeting place for tourists and locals due to its centrality.

There are various drinks available and some finger food that you can eat as well! This space is, however, very popular, so it is not surprising to see often many of the customers standing by the entrance of the bar enjoying their drinks.

📍 LOCATION: Rua das Oliveiras 36, 4050-448 Porto

11 | Selina

Located in the Selina Porto hotel, here you will find a very spacious and pleasant space. It is the perfect meeting point for the hottest weekend afternoons and sometimes it even holds live shows.

In addition to the drinks’ menu, the space has some options for meals.

📍 LOCATION: Rua das Oliveiras 61, 4050-449 Porto

12 | Picaba Natural Café

Picaba Natural Café and its terrace with a privileged view over Matosinhos beach is the perfect choice for those more relaxing days.

The most popular product is the açaí bowl with yoghurt and granola, as it is one of the best in Porto and it is also quite cheap!

In addition, during the week, there is the menu of the day during lunchtime. It is also worth mentioning the natural juices and pancakes.

📍 LOCATION: Via do Castelo do Queijo 395, 4100-429 Porto

13 | Praia da Luz

Located in the Foz area, the restaurant bar Praia da Luz is right on top of Praia da Luz (the beach) and has a very pleasant space to watch the sunset.

📍 LOCATION: Rua Cel. Raúl Peres, 4150-155 Porto

14 | Ar d’Mar

Despite being located a bit away from the historical centre of Porto, Ar d’Mar is one of the best beach bars in Porto. The terrace is large and very friendly, with the best views over the extensive beaches of Gaia.

I especially recommend the açaí bowl (very well served!) or the cocktails 😍. In the summer months, they usually have some sunset events.

📍 LOCATION: Rua Agro de Cima 90, 4400-353 Vila Nova de Gaia

15 | IBAR

Although not one of the most Instagrammable terraces or the best bar in Porto, Ibar is worth it for its space – perfect for sunbathing.

However, I suggest you stick to the more simple drinks or less elaborate snacks.

📍 LOCATION: Avenida de Montevideu 516, 4150-519 Porto

16 | Soundwich

Located in Parque da Cidade, Soundwich has one of the best terraces in Porto. The space is very pleasant and, in addition to operating during the day, it also operates during meal times, selling products such as pizzas.

Besides, the space is dog, bike and baby friendly, which might be very useful in some cases.

📍 LOCATION: Avenida do Parque 595, 4100-376 Porto

17 | HF Ipanema Park

Located on the top floor of the HF Ipanema Park hotel, On Top rooftop has panoramic views of Porto and a swimming pool for the hottest days in town. The pool can also be used by non-hotel guests from 8 pm every day of the week.

Rooftop terraces Porto HF Ipanema Park

I especially recommend trying out the signature cocktails, particularly the On Terrace (coconut-based) and Porto Passion.

📍 LOCATION: Rua de Serralves 124, 4150-702 Porto

18 | Yeatman

The Yeatman bar is located in what is considered one of the most luxurious hotels in Porto! Get ready for an unforgettable experience 🥰.

It’s true that prices are quite high, but there are some things you only do once in a lifetime. Isn’t that right?

📍 LOCATION: Rua do Choupelo, 4400-088 Vila Nova de Gaia

19 | Bar Ponte Pênsil

Located by Ribeira do Porto, Ponte Pênsil Bar is one of the bars in Porto with one of the most original locations, as it is inserted in one of the old Pênsil bridge pillars.

Given the premium location of this bar, prices are a bit higher, but it’s worth it for the views over Cais de Gaia and the remaining Porto’s riverside area.

📍 LOCATION: Rua de Cima do Muro 14, 4000-173 Porto

20 | Marina do Freixo

The Marina do Freixo‘s terrace is probably the least known on this list, and only those who know it go there. The menu is varied (you can even have meals here), however, I recommend this place for a coffee with a nice view.

📍 LOCATION: Marina do Freixo Porto, N108, 4300-316 Porto

21 | Rooftop Flores

Rooftop das Flores is one of the smallest rooftop bars in Porto and on this list, but it’s no less interesting. The space has a unique view over Porto and the menu has some very tasty drinks, but there are other options such as a lunch menu.

📍 LOCATION: Rua da Vitória 177, 4050-634 Porto

22 | LEA – Food & Drinks

In addition to one of the largest indoor and cosy terraces in Porto, LEA – Food & Drinks has an extensive menu ranging from drinks to bowls, toasts and much more.

📍 LOCATION: Avenida da Boavista 854, 4100-112 Porto

23 | Hotel Neya Porto

Located at the top of the Neya Porto Hotel, the Skybar is one of Porto’s most recent terraces. This rooftop bar has a wide selection of drinks, namely cocktails. But there are also some food options for light meals. The atmosphere is very inviting for the warmer days.

📍 LOCATION: Rua de Monchique 35 a 41, 4050-394 Porto

24 | Pimenta Rosa

Besides the terrace and small interior garden of Bombarda Shopping Centre (Centro Comercial Bombarda), where Pimenta Rosa café is located, here you will find the best value for money cakes in the city of Porto!

📍 LOCATION: Rua de Miguel Bombarda 285, 4050-381 Porto

25 | Lapa Lapa

Located right next to the seafront promenade in Foz do Douro, Lapa Lapa is a place for lunch and dinner or simply for a drink during the rest of the day.

📍 LOCATION: Avenida do Brasil, 4150-185 Porto

26 | Chez Maurice

Right on Aguda Beach, Chez Maurice is the chosen place by many locals for drinks at the end of the day or for a more relaxed afternoon at the weekend! Given the proximity to the beach, this is the perfect place to watch the sunset on those sunny days 😁.

📍 LOCATION: Rua do Mar 251, 4410-332 Arcozelo

27 | Candelabro

Candelabro is the place to be for that drink at the end of the day, any day of the week. Attended by locals and many tourists too, this is one of the most popular bars in Porto and has a very cosy outdoor space.

📍 LOCATION: Rua da Conceição 3, 4050-215 Porto

28 | Letraria – Craft Beer Garden

Beer lovers? Then Letraria – Craft Beer Garden is the ideal place for you, where you can taste various types of craft beer!

📍 LOCATION: Rua da Alegria 101, 4000-042 Porto

29 | Vincci Ponte de Ferro

Located at the entrance to the upper deck of Luís I bridge on Vila Nova de Gaia, Vincci Ponte de Ferro Hotel has some of the most beautiful views over the city of Porto. And the best part is that the hotel bars are open to anyone.

Take advantage of its two terraces to have a cocktail while enjoying the surrounding landscape.

📍 LOCATION: Rua do Casino da Ponte 1, 4430-999 Vila Nova de Gaia

The list of terraces and rooftop bars and cafés in Porto that are worth a visit certainly does not end here! There are many amazing spaces to enjoy the warmer days in the city! Anyway, I hope this post has left you wanting to try some of these places 🥰. Let me know if you visit any!
