Why I chose Reserva Alecrim

When researching glamping accommodations in Alentejo, I compared a few different options. However, Reserva Alecrim immediately stood out.

First, there were the dome accommodations. I’d wanted to spend the night in a dome for years and this seemed like the perfect opportunity.

Second, the location was ideal. Since I was already exploring Costa Vicentina, Reserva Alecrim was a natural stop along the way. It’s also a fantastic base for discovering the Alentejo coast, Melides and Santiago do Cacém.

Finally, the property itself looked beautiful. Between the infinity pool, the natural swimming pool and the surrounding lagoons, it seemed like the perfect place for a relaxing getaway.

Where is Eco Resort Reserva Alecrim?

Eco Resort Reserva Alecrim is located between Melides and Santiago do Cacém, in a peaceful rural setting surrounded by forests, hills and small lagoons.

It’s located around 1h45 to 2 hours from Lisbon by car, making it a fantastic option for a weekend getaway without having to travel too far.

One of the things I liked most about its location is that it feels completely immersed in nature while still being close enough to some of the most beautiful beaches on the Alentejo coast.

Another thing I liked about the location is that there are several good dining options within a short drive of the resort. During my stay, I particularly enjoyed O Bejinha in Sines, a traditional seafood restaurant serving some of the freshest fish I’ve had in the region.

Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway in Alentejo or a longer road trip through southern Portugal, the location works extremely well.

Accommodation types at Reserva Alecrim

One of the things I liked most about Reserva Alecrim is that it offers several types of accommodation.

Whether you’re looking for a romantic glamping getaway, a family holiday, or simply a unique place to stay in Alentejo, you’ll likely find an option that suits your needs.

Domes

The domes are undoubtedly the most iconic accommodation at Reserva Alecrim and one of the main reasons many guests choose to stay here.

This was the option I booked and, honestly, it was exactly what I had imagined when I first started looking for glamping in Portugal.

Inside, you’ll find a comfortable bed, a private bathroom, a kitchenette, and everything needed for a relaxing stay.

Glamping Tents

If you’re looking for a more traditional glamping experience, Reserva Alecrim also offers safari-style tents.

They provide a closer connection to nature while still offering much more comfort than a traditional campsite.

Bungalows and Villas

For families or larger groups, the bungalows or the villas offer additional space and privacy.

These accommodations combine the peaceful atmosphere of the resort with the convenience of more traditional holiday accommodation.

Which accommodation would I choose?

If you’re visiting as a couple, I’d definitely recommend one of the domes. They’re the most unique accommodation on the property and offer the glamping experience many people are looking for.

For families or groups, I’d probably choose one of the villas or bungalows, as they offer more space and privacy.

My experience of staying at Reserva Alecrim

As soon as we arrived at Reserva Alecrim, I knew I had made the right choice.

After checking in, we were taken directly to our dome. Each accommodation has its own parking space and a private outdoor area with chairs, sun loungers, and a table. Surrounded by nature and complete silence, it immediately felt like the kind of place where you could truly switch off for a few days.

But it was only when I stepped inside the dome that I really understood the appeal of glamping.

The interior was simple yet beautifully designed, combining comfort with a strong connection to the surrounding landscape.

Despite feeling immersed in nature, we still had all the amenities you would expect from a comfortable hotel stay, including a kitchenette and everything needed for a relaxing getaway.

After unpacking, we spent the rest of the afternoon exploring the property.

One of the first places we headed to was the infinity pool. Surrounded by green scenery, it’s the kind of place where it’s very easy to lose track of time. Nearby, there’s also a bar serving drinks, snacks, and homemade pizzas, making it the perfect spot to spend a lazy afternoon.

However, what surprised me most was the biological pool. Filled with water lilies and visited by the occasional frog, it feels much more natural than a traditional swimming pool and fits perfectly with the eco-friendly atmosphere of the resort.

A little further away, you’ll find several lagoons scattered around the property. Even if you’re not tempted to swim, they’re wonderful places to slow down, enjoy the scenery, and watch the sunset. Some of my favorite moments of the stay were simply sitting by the water and enjoying the peaceful surroundings.

Since my visit, Reserva Alecrim has also added a heated pool under an open dome structure, making the resort even more appealing during the cooler months.

But if I had to choose my favorite part of the entire experience, it would probably be breakfast.

The next morning, a basket filled with freshly prepared products was delivered directly outside our dome. It felt like one of those small details that turn a nice stay into a memorable one.

Inside, there was a generous selection of products, including fresh bread, croissants, yoghurt, seasonal fruit, local cheese, and freshly squeezed orange juice. Most products were homemade and the quality was excellent.

The only downside is that breakfast isn’t included in the standard room rate. Given that Reserva Alecrim isn’t exactly a budget accommodation, I do think it would make sense for it to be included. That said, I would still recommend adding it to your booking. The experience alone makes it worth it.

Looking back, my biggest regret is that I only stayed one night.

If you’re looking for a unique stay in Alentejo, a romantic getaway surrounded by nature, or simply want to experience glamping in Portugal for the first time, I genuinely think Reserva Alecrim is one of the best places to do it.

Is Eco Resort Reserva Alecrim worth it?

In my opinion, yes.

If you’re looking to do some glamping in Alentejo and want something more special than a traditional hotel, Reserva Alecrim delivers exactly that. Between the unique accommodation, beautiful natural surroundings, and thoughtful details such as the breakfast baskets, it feels much more like an experience than simply a place to sleep.

Is it one of the cheapest places to stay in the region? Definitely not. But if you’re celebrating a special occasion, planning a romantic getaway, or simply want to try glamping in Portugal for the first time, I think it’s worth the splurge.

Things to know before booking

Before booking your stay at Reserva Alecrim, here are a few things worth knowing:

  • A car is highly recommended, as the resort is located in a rural area and you’ll probably want to explore the surrounding region.
